Why Communication majors should attend Career Expo
by Jonathan Garza
The Career Expo is coming up. Should you go? Duh. And if you're a Communication major, make that a definite Duh! All students are strongly encouraged to attend, especially those studying towards a communication degree. Communication skills are one of the highest sought-after skills companies are looking for in employees. John Salicki, a regional sales manager for Sharp Document Solutions, agrees that excellent communication skills are a must. The Career Expo will offer a great opportunity for Communication majors to practice their curriculum in a realistic environment. Recruiters from more than sixty companies will be coming to the Student Union Memorial Center North Ballroom on February 20, accepting resumes and challenging students to utilize their inter-personal and public speaking abilities. Even if students do not intend on getting a job or internship, the Career Expo will offer a great opportunity for Communication majors to network and practice their interviewing skills. And remember, along with excellent communication skills, companies also look for a professional appearance. So if practicing your interviewing skills wasn't enough incentive, how about walking around campus in that sexy business suit?
